Combination / Hybrid

Flap tissue, an implant and fat grafting shown side by side, joined by and/or, leading to a reconstructed breast

More than one technique used together. An implant can be an addition to a flap, not only an alternative: a latissimus dorsi flap often supplies the muscle and tissue to cover and support an implant rather than forming the whole breast itself. An implant can also hold the space during other cancer treatment, until you are ready for flap surgery. Fat grafting usually comes later, as a staged revision to improve symmetry and the look of the donor site.
